AZ Senator Points Loaded Gun at Journalist

Jared Loughner would be proud:

A state lawmaker known for championing the rights of gun-owners pointed a loaded firearm at the chest of a reporter during a recent interview at the Capitol.

Republican Sen. Lori Klein was showing off her raspberry-pink handgun when she aimed it at a journalist who was interviewing her in the lounge just outside the Senate chambers.
According to the story that was published Sunday in the Arizona Republic, Klein’s .380 Ruger was loaded and did not have a safety to keep the gun from going off.

But Klein told the reporter, Richard Ruelas, that he didn’t need to worry because, “I just didn’t have my hand on the trigger.”

I Love My Blog, but…

Hay Sue Crease Toe!

A 15-year-old boy told Mesa police he shot his father in the back of the head last month because he wouldn’t let the teenager use the Internet, saying My Space was his outlet.

When Hughstan Schlicker heard officers talking about the investigation, he responded, “Dad came home, I shot him in the head, what investigation?” according to a Mesa police report released Wednesday.

Almost laughing, the teen told police, “along with murder, can you put me down for truancy, I ditched today,” the report said. “Can we clean up this before my mom gets home, I don’t want her to come home and see my dad dead.”

Later, he told detectives he was angry with his father but couldn’t remember the reason. “But I was mad at him very much and I wish I could take everything back; I wish this was a bad dream but it’s not.”

This is yet another example of why we need more guns.

Not.

Guns in the Classroom

First it was guns in our bars, now it’s guns in our schools. Add another folder to the National Embarrassment file for Arizona.

PHOENIX — Two Mesa lawmakers are drawing up legislation to give teachers — and some students — a chance to carry firearms on campus.

The proposals by Sen. Karen Johnson and Rep. Russell Pearce would allow anyone who has obtained a state permit to carry a concealed firearm to bring it onto public-school campuses, something now a crime under state law. It also would overrule similar policies at community colleges and state universities.

The prohibition would send a message to would-be criminals not to target schools because they might not be the only ones armed, Johnson said. People age 21 or older can apply for concealed-weapons permits in Arizona.

Phew, Glad My Gun Is Safe!

I will never, ever, ever understand the amount of mind control that the gun lobby has in this country, especially over the political class.

A White House spokesman said President Bush was horrified by the rampage and offered his prayers to the victims and the people of Virginia.

“The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed,” spokeswoman Dana Perino said

Dozens of dead at a college campus and the Warmonger in Chief sends out a dog whistle call to the NRA that they needn’t worry about their weapons.

Plus, don’t get me started on the irony of this man calling for the rule of law to be upheld. Get real, George.
